RAVEN 1

RAVEN 1

Our very first project had some very basic requirements before we picked the platform.

1/ 7 seater capacity - We wanted a 7 seater to allow families with kids to use this as a family hauler when not hitting the trails. Something that could be as comfortable taking the kids to a Sunday soccer game, as it is rock crawling in the bush looking for a private camping spot.

2/ Low range gearbox - A non negotiable item, a low range gearbox reduces strain on the drivetrain in challenging off road environments.

3/ On-the fly modifiable ride height - This was something we wanted to allow the most drivability and highway efficiency. Dropping the ride height on the highway allows for improved fuel economy and increased stability. Setting a moderate height in the city allows for bigger tires and parking lot maneuverability, and ofcourse in an offroad environment, the higher clearance allows for improved water traversing, and rock crawling.

4/ Flat folding seats- this allows for sleeping inside on solo or two person trips

5/ Reliability - A reliable engine and transmission is critical when you're in the middle of nowhere. We can tolerate failing switches or seat motors that fail, but non-negotiable was a proven engine and transmission.

6/ Rigid body on frame structure

The vehicle that met all these requirements was the Land Rover LR3 also known as the Discovery 3.
